What a wonderful Mother’s Day gift!

Please welcome Cabinwood’s Kirby York (”Kirby”)….Klass and Sierra have given us a beautiful dark sorrel jack foal…or at least at first glance he looks like a sorrel but time will have to tell since he has some unique coloring going on!!!! Thank goodness I was sleeping with one eye open and I saw Klass go down around 1:30am last night. I got to the barn just in time to see head and feet arrive, then the rest was very quick…out he came! He’s not short (I measured him at 22″ this morning) but he sure is tiny…just a little bugger but already up, running around and looking for mischief!

This is Sierra’s first foal here at Cabinwood, and if Kirby is any indication of what the rest will be like….oh boy! What a summer we will have!!

Happy Mother’s Day to all!

This is one beautifully conformed donkey! So far I can’t find a fault on her so I’m still not sure whether we are willing to part with her just yet. Once all the 2008 foals arrive we will have a better idea of who gets to stay and who will be allowed to find wonderful new homes! We’ll keep you posted as the new foals arrive!

Spring Tourism Drive Tour

Spring Tourism Drive Tour

“WILKUM…We Love Company” is the official greeting of the Geauga County Tourism Council. Since Cabinwood Farm is also in one of Northeast Ohio’s historic and very Amish regions, it made sense to use that Amish greeting also for visitors arriving here on the Tourism’s Spring Drive Tour!!

Mother Nature was NOT kind to the tour this year but the rain and miserable conditions didn’t stop the adventursome “tourists” of this area! Car after car, truck after truck arrived for several hours bringing young and old alike to Cabinwood. We were stop number 10 on the tour and the farthest East of any stop since we are actually just over the Geauga County line into Trumbull County. We lost count of the vehicles and people that came to visit but we didn’t lose sight of how nice people were and how much they loved petting the donkeys and visiting Cabinwood Farm! All in all, it was a grand day of meeting wonderful folks and being able to share our place and passions with all of them! We hope they had as much fun as we did!

Special thanks to all the tourism council members who put together this tour and worked hard to keep everyone moving and enjoying this year’s “Slow-paced Race” through Geauga County countyside!

Even MORE thanks to my wonderful family who showed up to give their support and lend a hand giving out popcorn, directing traffic, stamping maps, loading and unloading donkeys in the rain and just all around assistance with anything and everything that needed done! Al, Jason, Mandy and little Bean, CJ, Alex and Jeff….Thank YOU!!!!

Cabinwood Farm is proud to be a member of the Geauga County Tourism Council! This coming Saturday (May 3rd) we will take part in the Council’s yearly Spring Drive Tour called the Geauga County’s Amazing Slow-paced Race! Featured at our stop will be popcorn popping in the Cabinwood corn popper and what else??? Of course…..DONKEYS!

Farm favorites Olivia and Brianna will be on lead for petting, hugging and donkey kisses. Although no guided farm tours or barn visits are available on that day, there will be lots of donkeys in the pasture to see! Hopefully a baby donkey or two will be on hand, too! After the tour we will all head for the Middlefield Market House but because of donkey Olivia’s pregnant condition, she and Brianna will have to stay on the farm and yearlings Ophelia and MyTy will do the traveling for the petting fun Saturday afternoon at the Cabinwood Farm table and display around 4pm.

It will be a fun day rain or shine!

Hope to see you there!

Next on the foal deck….

Fat Klass

Our Double N Royal Klass has to be wondering just when she’ll be getting her figure back!!! Grand with foal, Klass is due sometime between today and May 11. Klass has the distinction of being bred in 3 different states! She and our main herdsire Red Sierra both came from Brayers are us in Texas and “were together” in that state right before they left, also “together” again in Indiana where they stopped for a week in transit, and then “again” once they arrived in Ohio so it will be a surprise as to when this foal is born!

Healthy and happy is what we’re hoping for!!

Springtime brings lots of chores to do so Nicoal, Celina and Ellie offered all their assistance today! As Al drove the golf cart full of leaves and grass through the pasture, these furry helpers did their best to get it unloaded!

Geauga County Humane Agent Visits!

Geauga County Humane Agent Visits!

Cabinwood welcomed Joyce Rice, the Geauga County Humane agent to the farm today! Ms. Rice is new to this job and this area so she was visiting to learn more about miniature donkeys. As the agent in charge of investigation into abuse or neglect cases she hopes to be more prepared in the future should donkeys be involved in any of these complaint situations.

What a beautiful day for Joyce to visit! All the donkeys were out in the back pasture and she got to meet all the girls including new baby Kaitlin Elizabeth.

We hope Joyce enjoys her new community, meets some nice people and animals and hopefully has very few cases of abuse and neglect to deal with.

There was no keeping Chutney and Katie Beth in the barn today! It was the most beautiful sunny and warm day and when all the donks went out…so did mother and baby!

Everyone did just fine after sniffing and getting to know the “new girl” but I’m sure they all will sleep good tonight after all that fresh air and exercise!

Please welcome into this world Cabinwood’s Kaitlin Elizabeth born around 2:30pm today (April 4, 2008). Little Katie Beth was 22″ high at birth and as she dries appears to be the spitting image of her dam Chutney. She, too, has those beautiful big eyes that Miss Chutney has! She’s a real wild one and is already hip hopping around the stall and making her Mom crazy!

A beautiful healthy baby! Welcome Katie Beth!!!!!!!
