We all waited a long time for this foal since Gypsy, his dam, has never been able to conceive till now! Well, he finally arrived mid-evening May 4, 2010 and he now holds the distinction of being Cabinwood’s smallest born foal! Measured still with his rubber hoof booties on he was a whopping 18 3/4″ tall! He’s as cute as he can be but we are still not sure of his color…first he looked dark, then as he dried off he was more of  a gray/lbrown/sorrel color with some stripes on his legs here and there! Despite his small and wobbly stature, he was up in a flash and nursing great in a very short time!

J. Marlowe is named after the John Wayne character Col. John Marlowe from his 1959 movie The Horse Soldiers.

Yesterday was a beautiful fall day in NEOhio coming after a few really lousy cold and rainy days. Everyone had been out in the pasture all day, including Chami until I checked her around 4pm and found that she had white milk in her udders! OH MY! Off she went to her stall and at around 11:15pm last night (October 1) we had our last foal of the season born! It was another little and gorgeous  ivory boy…now we have a pair! Chami had a model delivery and is being a great Mom so far. I’m SO GLAD our foaling for 2009 is over!!!!

Our new little fellow is named Cabinwood’s J. Stryker after the John Wayne character Sgt. John Stryker  in the 1949 movie Sands of Iwo Jima.

Cabinwood’s Lullaby Lucille 6/17/2009

Please welcome to this world Cabinwood’s Lullaby Lucille born last night (6/17/2009) to our jennet ASSphalt Acres Brianna!!! Lucille was almost 10 days late but she is a tiny little thing just over 20″. We’re still not sure what color she is but there certainly was a lot of red hair mixed in with some brown and whatever! We’ll know better this morning when we see her all dried off.

She was so active and alert at birth that she was up and jumping on her Mom Brianna before her Mom ever got up on her own after the birth!! When I left the stall around 1am last night Lucille was running all over everywhere in between nursings!

Thanks to Steve and Jill Crim at ASSphalt Acres for allowing Brianna back last year to breed with their herdsire Lawzyday Cherokee! Cherokee and Brianna have produced a beautiful little jennet together!

UPDATE:! Lucille is officially being called a dark sorrel now!! Lots of red and red eye lashes, too!

What a blessing this little girl is to us here tonight. It has been a very tough spring here at Cabinwood but tonight there was hooting and shouts of happiness for sure!!!

Please welcome Cabinwood’s Lady Cynthia born to our ivory girl Pieratt Possum and sired by Cabinwood’s JTChance. Little Cyn is Chance’s very first foal and she is also the very first home bred jennet for us. Last year we had a big crop of boys!!!

This little girl is perfect in every way and her dark buckskin ivory color is so unique!

Way to go Possum! Way to go Chance!

All I have to say this morning is that I am very glad that John Wayne made SO MANY movies since we seem to be using up those character names one right after the other!!!! This time say hello to our new boy, Hondo Lane, one of John Wayne’s great western hero characters from the 1953 movie Hondo.

Yes folks! We had ANOTHER BOY!!! Do you believe it???!!! Spitsy gave birth around 4:30am June 25, 2008 to a handsome bouncing baby boy. Al and I were both on hand at the birth and also our Granddaughter Alexandria got to watch her very first donkey birthing!!!! All went well without our help.

He is very very dark and curley-haired but at this point I won’t venture a guess on his color and I never got around to measuring him this morning so that will come later today. Like all of the boys this summer, he is very good looking…straight all the way around. Sierra has made some fine looking boys for us this year!!!
